Abstract:
In search of quality education. man continues to find the best and effective methods of
children upbringing. Over the past few years. Kenya's Secondary Schools have been faced by
violent students behaviour which have resulted in loss of human lives. property and learning
time. This study investigated the types of behaviour management methods currently being
used in secondary schools. In view of the enonnous resources the Kenya Government is
putting in the education sector. there is need to improve on quality and quantityof education
being offered in our secondary schools. The study was ex-post-facto conducted in secondary
schools of Nyeri Municipality in Nyeri district of Central Province. Kenya. The population of
study was 4764 students and 18 teachers distributed over 18 secondary schools in the
municipality. Single random sampling was done so as to obtain a representative sample of
263 students and 10 teachers. The research instrument was two questionnaires. which were
administered to students and teachers. Data was analyzed by use of descriptive statistics using
SPSS for windows. The study found out that there are no guidelines to teachers on standard
methods of students behaviour management methods and that students value guidance and
counseling which should be embraced more by teachers in students behaviour management.
The study recommends the strengthening of guidance and councelling programs in secondary
schools and the need to ensure that they are professionally run.
